Gyeongnam

Tea fields and river, learning at a slower pace

Western Gyeongnam lies between Jirisan and the Seomjin River. Hadong is held to be where tea was first planted in Korea, and wild tea fields run along the hillsides.

The Seomjin is known as one of Korea's clearest rivers. Walking or cycling along it is the most common outdoor activity here, and the riverside changes sharply with the seasons.

The Akyang area of Hadong is a designated International Slow City. Unlike fast-moving urban programmes, schedules here are built to run slowly — it suits participants who want to rest while they learn.

What you learn here

  • Tea culture

Pick and roast leaves in the wild tea fields and learn Korean tea culture.

  • Seomjin River fieldwork

Walk and observe along the river to read the local ecology and terrain.

  • Slow City living
